Active Fault Tolerant Control Based on Fault Estimation
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014For the chattering problem in the traditional sliding mode observer-based fault estimation, a second order sliding mode observer based on the Super-twisting algorithm was proposed. In order to avoid the cumbersome process of proving the stability of the Super-twisting algorithm, a Lyapunov function was adopted.

Active Fault Diagnosis by Temporary Destabilization
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2006Abstract An active fault diagnosis method for parametric or multiplicative faults is proposed. The method periodically adds a term to the controller that for a short period of time renders the system unstable if a fault has occurred, which facilitates rapid fault detection. An illustrative example is given.

Mapping of active faults and their characterization will provide the first direct constraints in a region known to have earthquakes. There is an inherent relationship between active faults and earthquakes. Satellite image calibration, creation of epipolar geometry of stereopair data and DEM, active faults identifications, anaglyph perspective for 3D ...

Abstract This chapter traces some of the ideas and concepts leading to the current understanding of the process of faulting and earthquake generation, gives examples of engineering geology investigations contributing to that understanding, describes some engineering projects that have been strongly influenced by the process, and suggests
