Reinforcement Learning for Active Flow Control in Experiments

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
We demonstrate experimentally the feasibility of applying reinforcement learning (RL) in flow control problems by automatically discovering active control strategies without any prior knowledge of the flow physics. We consider the turbulent flow past a circular cylinder with the aim of reducing the cylinder drag force or maximizing the power gain ...

Magnetically Actuated Microvalves for Active Flow Control [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2006
The reattachment of separated air flows can be actively controlled by blowing oscillatory air jets in the boundary layer, through submillimetric holes situated near the separation edge. To achieve such pulsed jets, a high flow rate, high actuation frequency microvalve was designed, fabricated and characterized.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Progress of active flow control aircraft adopting rudderless flight control and STOL

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics
Active flow control aircraft (AFCA) represent a significant development direction in next-generation aircraft design. Among them, rudderless flight control (RFC) and short takeoff and landing (STOL) are gaining widespread attentions and are gradually ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Active Vibration Control for a CNC Milling Machine

open access: yes, 2013
There is a requirement for improved three-dimensional surface characterisation and reduced tool wear when modern computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools are operating at high cutting velocities, spindle speeds and feed rates.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
