Active Galactic Nuclei in Void Regions

open access: yes, 2007
We present a comprehensive study of accretion activity in the most underdense environments in the universe, the voids, based on the SDSS DR2 data. Based on investigations of multiple void regions, we show that AGN's occurrence rate and properties differ ...

Ultrafast Laser Synthesis of Zeolites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents a novel ultrafast laser‐driven synthesis technique for zeolites directly in liquid. Laser pulses create a microscopic reactor that controls reaction kinetics at femto‐ and picosecond timescales. Nonlinear light‐matter interactions drive nucleation and growth, allowing the process to be paused at any stage of self‐assembly.

Correlation of Band Bending and Ionic Losses in 1.68 eV Wide Band Gap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Piperazinium salt treatments with different anions (chloride, iodide, tosylate, and bistriflimide) influence the energetics, carrier dynamics and long‐term stability of 1.68 eV perovskite solar cells. Chloride treatments achieve the highest efficiency (21.5%) but suffer from fast degradation due to ionic losses.

Questions and challenges of what powers galactic outflows in active galactic nuclei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Different mechanisms can drive outflows in active galactic nuclei (AGN), but it is often unclear which mechanism dominates, if any. To quantify the impact of AGN feedback on galaxy evolution, the driving mechanism of outflows must be better understood.

The Pan-STARRS1 z > 5.6 Quasar Survey. II. Discovery of 55 Quasars at 5.6 < z < 6.5

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The identification of bright quasars at z ≳ 6 enables detailed studies of supermassive black holes, massive galaxies, structure formation, and the state of the intergalactic medium within the first billion years after the Big Bang.

Cosmic rays from active galactic nuclei

open access: yes, 2008
Cosmic ray (CR) acceleration at the shock created by the expanding cocoons around active galactic nuclei (AGNs) is studied. It is shown that above the energy $10^{18}$ eV the overall energy spectrum of CRs, produced during the AGN evolution and released ...

Broad iron lines in Active Galactic Nuclei [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
An intrinsically narrow line emitted by an accretion disk around a black hole appears broadened and skewed as a result of the Doppler effect and gravitational redshift.

The Slow‐Rotating Nucleus of Comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy)

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The close approach of comet C/2013 R1 (Lovejoy) allowed us to conduct an in‐depth study of the morphology of the inner coma. From the measurement of the dust emission structures expanding near the cometary nucleus in November–December 2013, we derived a slow rotation period of 47.8±1.2$$ 47.8\pm 1.2 $$ h.
