The dynamics of a cracked rotor with an active magnetic bearing
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2001The dynamic characteristics of a cracked rotor with an active magnetic bearing (AMB) are theoretically analyzed in this paper. The effects of using optimal controller parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the cracked rotor and the effect of the crack on the stability of the active control system are discussed.

On Active Magnetic Bearing Control with Input Saturation
Proceedings of the 44th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2006We study the low-bias stabilization of active magnetic bearings (AMBs) subject to voltage saturation based on a recently proposed model for the AMB switching mode of operation. Using a forwarding-like approach, we construct a stabilizing controller of arbitrarily small amplitude and a control-Lyapunov function for the AMB dynamics.

NONLINEAR DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF A ROTOR ACTIVE MAGNETIC BEARING
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2010The nonlinear dynamic behavior of a rigid disc-rotor supported by active magnetic bearings (AMB) is investigated, without gyroscopic effects. The vibration of the rotor is modeled by a coupled second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities.

Fuzzy Controllers for Active Magnetic Bearings
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000Abstract The design of a fuzzy logic controller for a magnetic bearing is presented. Parameters defining the controller are selected with the aid of a multiobjective genetic algorithm. Unexpected results are discovered which show that novel controllers emerge from what is described in this paper as an 'unconstrained' search technique.

Decentralized Control for Active Magnetic Bearings
2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006In the paper a decentralized control for active magnetic bearings is discussed. For the numerical evaluation of different control algorithms a mathematical model of the controlled plant is determined. For this reason basic characteristics and fundamental operation principle of magnetic levitation as well mathematical model of the rigid shaft are ...

Unbalancing estimation in active magnetic bearings
Proceedings of IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Conference - SMC, 2002This paper deals with state reconstruction of a discrete linear time varying system which is influenced by constant disturbance adding to control input, and sinusoidal perturbations on measure signals. The process under consideration is composed of a horizontal rotating shaft, suspended by means of active magnetic bearings, that requires a control ...

Active magnetic bearings for sodium pump
2014 Annual International Conference on Emerging Research Areas: Magnetics, Machines and Drives (AICERA/iCMMD), 2014Centrifugal Pumps are used in the primary and secondary heat transport systems of fast reactors for pumping liquid sodium. Lubrication oil leakage from the conventional bearings used in these pumps is a potential threat to cause reactivity changes which could result in extended reactor shut down.

Development of an active superconducting magnetic bearing
IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 1995The potential use of YBa/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 7/ as an active component in a magnetic bearing is being investigated. Measurements are being made of the load bearing capacity and related stiffnesses in comparison to predictions from the critical state model.

Fuzzy control schemes for active magnetic bearings
1993Active magnetic bearings are used in applications where ordinary bearings meet difficulties. Due to nonlinear structure of active magnetic bearing system fuzzy logic control gives an attractive choice to control these systems. In this paper a fuzzy derivate gain adjusting method for active magnetic bearing control is presented.
