Active magnetic bearing design study

Journal of Vibration and Control, 2012
The purpose of this paper is to propose a useful method to implement active magnetic bearings (AMBs) on an existing rotating shaft which rotates on conventional bearings. This is feasible if AMBs can produce the same reaction loads of conventional ones and if the size of vane is large enough to host an AMB.

Controlling Journal Bearing Instability Using Active Magnetic Bearings

Volume 5: Turbo Expo 2007, 2007
Journal Bearings are excellent bearings due to their large load carrying capacity and favorable damping characteristics. However, Journal bearings are known to be prone to instabilities. The oil whirl and oil whip instabilities limit the rotor maximum rotating speed.

Digital multivariable control of active magnetic bearings

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992
Abstract That paper deals with digital control of active magnetic bearings as a non linear system. The considered process is a horizontal shaft which is suspended by means of electromagnetic forces. The model of such a process involves a linear part linking positions and velocity to forces, and a non linear one introduced by electromagnet behavior ...

Active Magnetic Bearing System Research

2019 III International Conference on Control in Technical Systems (CTS), 2019
In this article the tasks of constructing and studying the characteristics of electromagnets in an active magnetic bearing (AMB) is studied. The following results are presented in the work: description of a physical object, the process of creating a metrological stand, plan and methodology for conducting research.

Improvements of the Integration of Active Magnetic Bearings

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract Functional and structural integration are tools to improve mechatronic systems that include active magnetic bearing systems. In this paper two aspects of the integration of electromagnetic bearings are presented: 1. The non-linearity of the magnetic force is compensated by software integrated in the digital controller. 2.

Unbalancing estimation in active magnetic bearings

Proceedings of IEEE Systems Man and Cybernetics Conference - SMC, 2002
This paper deals with state reconstruction of a discrete linear time varying system which is influenced by constant disturbance adding to control input, and sinusoidal perturbations on measure signals. The process under consideration is composed of a horizontal rotating shaft, suspended by means of active magnetic bearings, that requires a control ...

Decentralized Control for Active Magnetic Bearings

2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
In the paper a decentralized control for active magnetic bearings is discussed. For the numerical evaluation of different control algorithms a mathematical model of the controlled plant is determined. For this reason basic characteristics and fundamental operation principle of magnetic levitation as well mathematical model of the rigid shaft are ...

Cooling of an Active Magnetic Bearing

Известия высших учебных заведений. Электромеханика, 2021
In this paper temperature field of the magnetic bearing of a gas compressor unit was considered. A two dimension mathematical model was prepared. Model parameters were calculated with using of analytical techniques and laws of similarity. In result of numerical simulation temperature distribution of the magnetic bearing was made specific.
