Decentralized Control for Active Magnetic Bearings

2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
In the paper a decentralized control for active magnetic bearings is discussed. For the numerical evaluation of different control algorithms a mathematical model of the controlled plant is determined. For this reason basic characteristics and fundamental operation principle of magnetic levitation as well mathematical model of the rigid shaft are ...

Cooling of an Active Magnetic Bearing

Известия высших учебных заведений. Электромеханика, 2021
In this paper temperature field of the magnetic bearing of a gas compressor unit was considered. A two dimension mathematical model was prepared. Model parameters were calculated with using of analytical techniques and laws of similarity. In result of numerical simulation temperature distribution of the magnetic bearing was made specific.

Fuzzy Controllers for Active Magnetic Bearings

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract The design of a fuzzy logic controller for a magnetic bearing is presented. Parameters defining the controller are selected with the aid of a multiobjective genetic algorithm. Unexpected results are discovered which show that novel controllers emerge from what is described in this paper as an 'unconstrained' search technique.

Active magnetic bearings for sodium pump

2014 Annual International Conference on Emerging Research Areas: Magnetics, Machines and Drives (AICERA/iCMMD), 2014
Centrifugal Pumps are used in the primary and secondary heat transport systems of fast reactors for pumping liquid sodium. Lubrication oil leakage from the conventional bearings used in these pumps is a potential threat to cause reactivity changes which could result in extended reactor shut down.

Smart Turbomachines Using Active Magnetic Bearings

Volume 5: Structures and Dynamics, Parts A and B, 2008
Due to the convergence of several key technologies, direct driven (i.e. gearless) turbomachines have become established solutions for specific applications. Magnetic bearings are a key element enabling such machine topologies, which has led to increased interest and also understanding of manufacturers and end customers of this technology.

Active magnetic bearings of high reliability

IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology, 2003, 2004
Active magnetic bearings (AMBs) offer a new way in bearing technology for supporting structures as, for example, platforms or rotors in rotating machinery. Compared with conventional journal bearings or rolling element bearings AMBs possess substantial advantages: No lubricant and no friction due to non-contact suspension; no maintenance required ...

Control aspects of active magnetic bearings

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1999
Abstract The challenges of active magnetic bearing control are reviewed and several new areas of research are discussed. Robust multivariable control design techniques are examined for the design of controllers for a high speed milling spindle. Adaptive vibration control is shown to be very effective in the suppression of synchronous vibration due to

Digital control of active magnetic bearings

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 1990
Theoretical relationships are developed to relate the characteristics of a controller transfer function to the stiffness and damping properties of an active magnetic bearing for machine rotors. Both proportional and derivative feedback are shown to be necessary for closed-loop system stability, and, for the ideal case, bearing stiffness and damping ...

State Controller of Active Magnetic Bearing

2007
A state controller of rotating shaft levitated by an active magnetic bearing is described in this contribution. It is shown that the state controller is able to slow down and stabilize the response of the controlled system. Furthermore an error compensation represented by an integrative controller connected on input to the state controller allows ...
