OPTIMAL PWM METHODS FOR ACTIVE POWER FILTERS

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1989
Abstract Active power filters are the systems which can compensate the harmonics in the power system using a power converter and a reactive storage element (an inductor or a capacitor). There are two types of active power filters, one, the current source type, and the other, the voltage source type.

Direct power control of shunt active filter

2007 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2007
This paper presents a new control method entitled direct power control (DPC) for shunt active power filtering, which is applied to eliminate line current harmonics and compensate reactive power. Its main goal is to rebuild active and reactive powers to be compared to references values using hysteresis control.

Power Quality Improvement using Shunt Active Power Filters

2023
Because of its lower power consumption in comparison to linear load, non-linear load is gaining popularity at an increasing rate. In spite of the fact that power electronic equipment makes our lives easier, it also contributes to the harmonics that are present in the power system.

Hybrid Structure of Static Var Compensator and Hybrid Active Power Filter (SVC//HAPF) for Medium-Voltage Heavy Loads Compensation

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2018
In this paper, the structure, modeling, parameter design, and control method are proposed for a new hybrid structure of a static var compensator in parallel with a hybrid active power filter (SVC//HAPF).

Application of adaptive filters in active power filters

2009 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference, 2009
This paper presents a new idea applied to adaptive filters for harmonic detection in shunt active power filters. Improve the speed of convergence of the adaptive filter and reduces the steady-state error are the finals objectives of the strategy. Two cases are presented and discussed, one with a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) adaptive filter with 32 ...

Design of LCL-Filter with Active Damping for Active Power Filter

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
In this paper, the influence of gird-side and inverter-side inductance on LCL-filter performance is studied. The design method of LCL-filter applied in three-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF) is proposed. An active damping strategy using the current feedback of the filter capacitor is adopted to suppress the resonance.

Improved shunt active power filters

2008 International School on Nonsinusoidal Currents and Compensation, 2008
This paper describes a shunt active power filters (APF) with improved dynamic performance. When the value of load current changes rapidly, the APF transient response is too slow, the line current suffers from dynamic distortion. This distortion causes an increase of harmonic content in the line current, which is dependent on a time constant.

Power quality improvement using shunt active power filter

2017 International Conference on Data Management, Analytics and Innovation (ICDMAI), 2017
In recent years, power electronics devices have evolved, and used for varies applications. Also, this device caused the problem of power quality in electrical system. In the utility side arc furnaces, variable frequency drives (VFD), personal computer, fluorescent lamp such non-linear load produces current harmonics.
