Enabling pandemic‐resilient healthcare: Narrowband Internet of Things and edge intelligence for real‐time monitoring

open access: yesCAAI Transactions on Intelligence Technology, EarlyView.
Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) in deploying robotic sprayers for pandemic‐associated disinfection and monitoring has garnered significant attention in recent research. The authors introduce a novel architectural framework designed to interconnect smart monitoring robotic devices within healthcare facilities using narrowband Internet of Things ...

Climate Change and (Mal)Adaptation in Tourism‐Intensive Alpine Regions

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Tourism, especially in winter, accounts for a large share of economic income in Alpine regions. At the same time, these regions are more severely affected by climate change, leading to shorter winter seasons and reduced snow cover. This presents a pressing issue for areas reliant on income from winter tourism through activities such as skiing.

Adaptive, Active Queue Management in Heterogeneous Networks

open access: yes, 2004
Queue management and congestion control are important to the robustness and fairness of the Internet. So far, the Active Queue Management (AQM) algorithms show weaknesses to detect and control congestion under dynamically changing network topology.

Active queue management for congestion avoidance in multimedia streaming

open access: yes, 2015
Reducing the queue length and queuing delay in the buffer which in turn reduces congestion and latency in the network are of great importance for real-time video services.

The Gender of Fossil Fuels: Oil and Domestic Perils in Mandate Palestine

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article explores the gender dynamics behind the rise of kerosene – an oil derivative – as the main domestic fuel in Mandate Palestine. It argues that these dynamics were constitutive in determining who began to use oil, where and for what purposes, in turn demonstrating that women in Palestine were the promoters and targets of a campaign ...

Characterization Guidelines for Active Queue Management (AQM) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Unmanaged large buffers in today’s networks have given rise to a slew of performance issues. These performance issues can be addressed by some form of Active Queue Management (AQM) mechanism, optionally in combination with a packet-scheduling scheme ...

Analysis and design of an adaptive virtual queue (AVQ) algorithm for active queue management

open access: yes, 2001
Virtual Queue-based marking schemes have been recently proposed for AQM (Active Queue Management) in Inter-net routers. We consider a particular scheme, which we call the Adaptive Virtual Queue (AVQ), and study its following properties: stability in the ...

AUGURAL TERRITORIES: On the Prophetic Organizing of the Mid‐range

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article I introduce the concept of augural territories to theorize the urbanism that emerged during pandemic lockdowns. I draw on ethnographic research in Madrid to examine how community‐based responses—including mutual aid networks, food pantries and neighbourhood associations—disrupted the spatial and temporal logics of territorial ...

A Novel Self-tuning Feedback Controller for Active Queue Management Supporting TCP Flows

open access: yes, 2009
[[abstract]]Wireless access points act as bridges between wireless and wired networks. Since the actually available bandwidth in wireless networks is much smaller than that in wired networks, there is a bandwidth disparity in channel capacity which makes
