In this work, we propose an active optical zoom system. The zoom module of the system is formed by a liquid lens and a spatial light modulator (SLM). By controlling the focal lengths of the liquid lens and the encoded digital lens on the SLM panel, we can change the magnification of an image without mechanical moving parts and keep the output plane ...

Imaging Nervous System Activity
Current Protocols in Neuroscience, 2009AbstractThis unit describes methods for loading ion‐ and voltage‐sensitive dyes into neurons, with a particular focus on the spinal cord as a model system. In addition, we describe the use of these dyes to visualize neural activity. Although the protocols described here concern spinal networks in culture or an intact in vitro preparation, they can be ...

Imaging Nervous System Activity
Current Protocols in Neuroscience, 1997AbstractOptical imaging methods rely upon visualization of three types of signals: (1) intrinsic optical signals, including light scattering and reflectance, birefringence, and spectroscopic changes of intrinsic molecules, such as NADH or oxyhemoglobin; (2) changes in fluorescence or absorbance of voltage‐sensitive membrane dyes; and (3) changes in ...

Active Dressware: Wearable Kinesthetic Systems
2003Artificial sensory motor systems granting the power to reach out and interact with illusory objects and granting the objects the power to resist movement or to manifest their presence are now under development in a truly wearable form using an innovative technology based on electro-active polymers.

Active 3D imaging systems use artificial illumination in order to capture and record digital representations of objects. The use of artificial illumination allows the acquisition of dense and accurate range images of textureless objects that are difficult to acquire using passive vision systems.

A general method for interconnecting active circulators is described. Various circuits which arc derived from the general system possess properties which arc of significance in active filter synthesis.

Active Aerodynamic Systems (AAS) are aerodynamic control surfaces that use the shape memory mechanism of Nitinol wires which have been embedded into an elastic medium. Nitinol is an alloy of Nickel and Titanium which possesses pseudo-elastic properties, causing it to shrink a considerable amount when it reaches an activation temperature.

Learning Activities and Activity Systems
2019This chapter considers what general principles can be developed from theories of how people learn and how these can be applied to learning with digital technologies in particular. Learning activity is offered as a helpful focus for educational design, and Activity Theory is used to develop a model of design practice which focuses on different aspects ...
