An active control system is provided with an actuator which controls a noise and/or vibration state of an automotive vehicle, a detector which detects the noise and/or vibration state of the vehicle, and a control unit which receives an output signal of the noise and/or vibration state detector and outputs a signal to control the actuator, the control ...

Active database systems have been proposed to satisfy the requirements of applications that must react in a timely manner to events. Active object systems combine the properties of active database management systems and object-oriented database management systems (OODBMS).

Good on-line help systems are of crucial importance for the computer systems of the future. An increased functionality (required by the many different tasks which a user wants to do) will lead to an increased complexity. Empirical investigations have shown that on the average only 40% of the functionality of complex computer systems are used.

Drilling into volcanic systems has already yielded important results concerning the structure and history of volcanic systems, and the transport of magma and heat within them. These lines of investigation should be continued so that all common kinds of volcanic systems are explored. Although the engineering and safety challenges are large, the ultimate

The influence of nonlinearity in passive elastic and dissipative elements on the dynamics of vibration protection systems has been studied in detail in Chapters 3 and 4, see also [65]. It was shown that the nonlinearity of elastic restoring characteristics and especially the presence of elastic and rigid stops lead to undesirable resonances.
