Erythropoietic Activity in Human Urine Concentrate.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1964
SummaryIncreased erythropoietic specific activities remained in urine which had been concentrated by flash evaporation, adjusted to high ionic strength, and precipitated at high ethanol concentration. The apparent stability of erythropoietin was attributed to a protective carrier relatively stable under the conditions described. Erythropoietic activity

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Impacts of elevated CO2 concentration on biochemical composition, carbonic anhydrase, and nitrate reductase activity of freshwater green algae

open access: yes, 2005
To investigate the biochemical response of freshwater green algae to elevated CO2 concentrations, Chlorella pyrenoidosa Chick and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii Dang cells were cultured at different CO2 concentrations within the range 3-186 μ mol/L and the ...

Alteration of natural ³⁷Ar activity concentration in the subsurface by gas transport and water infiltration

open access: yes, 2016
High ³⁷Ar activity concentration in soil gas is proposed as a key evidence for the detection of underground nuclear explosion by the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

The effects of inspiratory muscle training on plasma interleukin-6 concentration during cycling exercise and a volitional mimic of the exercise hyperpnea

open access: yes, 2013
It is unknown whether the respiratory muscles contribute to exercise-induced increases in plasma interleukin-6 (IL-6) concentration, if this is related to diaphragm fatigue, and whether inspiratory muscle training (IMT) attenuates the plasma IL-6 ...

Distribution of 137Cs activity concentration in wood scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) of Zhytomyr Polissya after the Chernobyl accident

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2017
Using the calculated values for wood samples (relative diameter, height and relative activity concentration of 137Cs) selected in different parts of the profile tree stems, statistical and graphical interpretation of the regularity of the distribution of

Assessment of radiological contamination of lead mining site at Akwana, Wukari, Northeastern Nigeria, using gamma spectroscopy

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment
This study presents the activity concentration and estimated radiological indices associated with lead mining activities in Akwana, Wukari, Nigeria. Lead ore, soil samples, and mining tailings from the mining sites were analyzed using a NaI(Tl)-based ...
