Rebalancing with transaction costs: theory, simulations, and actual data

open access: yesFinancial Markets and Portfolio Management, 2019
AbstractIn the absence of transaction costs and the presence of independent returns, a buy-and-hold strategy theoretically generates higher expected returns than a fixed-weight strategy, where the portfolio weights are regularly readjusted/rebalanced to some initial level. This higher expected return comes with higher volatility.

Screening for lung cancer: A systematic review of overdiagnosis and its implications

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low‐dose computed tomography (CT) screening for lung cancer may increase overdiagnosis compared to no screening, though the risk is likely low versus chest X‐ray. Our review of 8 trials (84 660 participants) shows added costs. Further research with strict adherence to modern nodule management strategies may help determine the extent to which ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Rethinking plastic waste: innovations in enzymatic breakdown of oil‐based polyesters and bioplastics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plastic pollution remains a critical environmental challenge, and current mechanical and chemical recycling methods are insufficient to achieve a fully circular economy. This review highlights recent breakthroughs in the enzymatic depolymerization of both oil‐derived polyesters and bioplastics, including high‐throughput protein engineering, de novo ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Do randomized controlled trials discuss healthcare costs? [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: Healthcare costs, particularly pharmaceutical costs, are a dominant issue for most healthcare organizations, but it is unclear if randomized controlled trials (RCTs) routinely discuss costs.

Prediction of Myasthenia Gravis Worsening: A Machine Learning Algorithm Using Wearables and Patient‐Reported Measures

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a rare disorder characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness with potential life‐threatening crises. Timely interventions may be delayed by limited access to care and fragmented documentation. Our objective was to develop predictive algorithms for MG deterioration using multimodal telemedicine data ...
