We examine energy balance and evapotranspiration dynamics in a shallow peatland as an analogue for projected climate change impacts in deeper peatlands. Across nine growing seasons, we document similar total evapotranspiration between dry and wet years, leading to net moisture deficit in some dry years.

Patterns of River Flow Regulation Across the World's Climate Regions
We quantify the Impoundment Ratio (IR) for 16 060 dams worldwide to assess how reservoir capacity relative to natural runoff varies across climate regions. One‐third of dams have IR ≥ 1, with the highest values in arid and semi‐arid zones and clear national contrasts within similar climates.

Targeting phosphorus loss with carbon farming practices? Results from an on‐farm study
Abstract Agricultural soils lose P to waterbodies and C to the atmosphere. Reversing the C trend requires change in management (carbon farming), but what is the effect of carbon farming practices on P transport from soils to waterbodies? This was empirically studied by analyzing the P loss risks from 20 farms participating in a 5‐year on‐farm carbon ...

Machine learning models, particularly random forest, demonstrate strong potential for localized temperature prediction in climatically complex regions, achieving high accuracy (R2 ≈ 0.91). Relative humidity (r = −0.92) and solar irradiance (r = 0.79) emerge as predictors, offering valuable insights for climate‐informed agricultural and water resource ...

Abstract Conflicting reports on biochar's effect on soil evaporation (E) highlight a poor understanding of how its physicochemical properties govern E dynamics in sandy soils. Thus, the aim of this study was to provide mechanistic insights by correlating biochar physicochemical properties with the distinct stages of evaporation.

Abstract Previously, developers of soil moisture monitoring networks have determined how many sensors to use and their installation depths with little objective guidance, which led to heavy reliance on suboptimal past precedents when deploying new networks. One such network, the Oklahoma Hydronet, is being developed to monitor water stored in the state'
