Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

A Correspondence Theory of Objects? On Kant's Notions of Object, Truth, and Actuality [PDF]
Ernst Cassirer claimed that Kant's notion of actual object presupposes the notion of truth. Therefore, Kant cannot define truth as the correspondence of a judgment with an actual object.

Actualism, Serious Actualism, and Quantified Modal Logic
The paper navigates in the waters between metaphysical doctrine and formal logical representation. The goal is to build a first-order modal logic that accommodates both ``actualism'' (the view there are no merely possible things, that is, things that do not exist but have some alternative kind of being) and ``serious actualism'' (that all sentences ...

Actuality Entailments: When the Modality is in the Presupposition
In natural language, modals are not implicative. However, when the modality is combined with the perfective, it shows an implicative or factive behavior. This phenomenon is called 'actuality entailment'. We show that actuality entailments arise with goal-

We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

On the non-actuality inferences in Turkish avertives
Languages have various forms of expressing implications ofimminency and non-actuality. While a variety of constructions such asimperfectives, proximatives or adverbs like almost crosslinguistically imply thecounterfactuality of the event in question ...

SIRT4 positively regulates autophagy via ULK1, but independently of HDAC6 and OPA1
Cells expressing SIRT4 (H161Y), a catalytically inactive mutant of the sirtuin SIRT4, fail to upregulate LC3B‐II and exhibit a reduced autophagic flux under stress conditions. Interestingly, SIRT4(H161Y) promotes phosphorylation of ULK1 at S638 and S758 that are associated with inhibition of autophagy initiation.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Interpreting the Quantum Wave Function in Terms of 'Interacting Faculties' [PDF]
In this article we discuss the problem of finding an interpretation of quantum mechanics which provides an objective account of physical reality. In the first place we discuss the problem of interpretation and analyze the importance of such an objective ...
