Active Fault-Tolerant Control System Design for Spacecraft Attitude Maneuvers with Actuator Saturation and Faults

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2019
This paper designs an active fault-tolerant control system for spacecraft attitude control in the presence of actuator faults, fault estimation errors, and control input constraints.

Effective Actuation: High Bandwidth Actuators and Actuator Scaling Laws [PDF]

open access: possible, 2001
Abstract : The project advances active flow control to enable new Air Force capabilities. Advances in both the development of new actuator hardware and in understanding the flow physics have been achieved. Four key new advances have been achieved in Phase I of this AFOSR/STTR Program. First, a new high power (125-160 dB), high bandwidth (factor of 8.6),

Electrochemical Actuators with Multicolor Changes and Multidirectional Actuation

Small, 2022
AbstractElectrochemical (EC) actuators have garnered significant attention in recent years, yet there are still some critical challenges to limit their application range, such as responsive time, multifunctionality, and actuating direction. Herein, an EC actuator with a back‐to‐back structure is fabricated by stacking two membranes with bilayer V2O5 ...

Actuation of a discontinuous structure with piezoelectric actuators

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2008
Abstract An alternate approach to exciting a one-dimensional structure with discontinuities using a piezoelectric actuator is presented and examined. Instead of being bonded to the uniform side of a beam, the piezoelectric actuator is attached such that it spans two adjacent rib discontinuities.

Actuator selection for over-actuated systems using the actuator effectiveness index

International Journal of Dynamics and Control, 2020
This paper presents a new actuator selection methodology for over-actuated systems based on the actuator effectiveness index. In the proposed method, possible actuator candidates are quantitatively compared. The index is calculated for all candidates and is then used to select the appropriate actuator set based on their effectiveness.

Conducting IPN actuators: From polymer chemistry to actuator with linear actuation

Synthetic Metals, 2006
Among electroactive actuators, those based on electronic conducting polymers (ECPs) possess several advantages (low actuation voltages, large deformations, etc.) but also some drawbacks (bending movements only, delamination, etc.). In order to overcome the delamination process observed in working three-layered actuators, we have developed a new concept

Error-Constrained LOS Path Following of a Surface Vessel With Actuator Saturation and Faults

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, 2018
This paper presents an error-constrained line-of-sight (ECLOS) path-following control method for a surface vessel subject to uncertainties, disturbances, and actuator saturation and faults.

An XYθ mechanism actuated by one actuator

Mechanism and Machine Theory, 2004
Abstract This paper presents a novel type of XYθ mechanism, in which three-degree-of-freedom motion in plane could be obtained with one actuator. The principle of the mechanism is described. One application of the novel mechanism is used in flexure hinge mechanism for micro-planar robot.

Adaptive Finite Time Control of Nonlinear Systems Under Time-Varying Actuator Failures

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, 2019
This paper proposes a new finite-time tracking control strategy for a nonlinear uncertain system with actuation failures. The presented control scheme is not dependent on the exact model of system and actuation failures.

Study of micro-actuator with electrostatic actuating

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
The micro-actuator with the torsion beam and the cantilever beam on silicon is designed and analyzed, which is actuated by electrostatic force. Based on the torsion dynamics theory, the technique and relative formula are presented for analyzing the actuating voltage and the switching time, on which the effect of the air squeeze film damping is already ...
