MEMS actuator and relay with horizontal actuation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2010
A micro-electromechanical (MEMS) actuator and relay are implemented using a copper coil and a magnetic core. The magnetic core includes a base section that lies within the copper coil, and a cantilever section that lies outside of the copper coil. The presence of a magnetic field in the coil causes the cantilever section to move horizontally away from ...

Actuation of MEMS by Light: An Optical Actuator

Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2001
Abstract This paper presents experimental evidence that MEMS devices may be manipulated using beams of light. Light possesses momentum, and hence it imparts a force equal to 2W/c when perfectly reflected by a surface. Here W is the total power of the reflected light, and c is the speed of light.

A Novel Stick–Slip Piezoelectric Actuator Based on a Triangular Compliant Driving Mechanism

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2019
There is a growing demand for positioning actuators with a higher resolution, accuracy, speed, and driving force. Various piezoelectric actuators have been proposed to meet these requirements; however, they all have inherent limitations.

Actuators

1991
Publisher Summary Hydraulic or pneumatic system is concerned with moving, gripping, or applying force to an object. Devices that actually achieve this objective are called actuators, and can be split into three basic types. This chapter discusses linear and rotary actuators.

actuators for microrobotics

2010
Micromanipulation requires very high resolution robotic systems in order to achieve repeatabilities and precisions that are compatible with the dimension of the objects being manipulated. This makes it preferable to use compliant structures rather than articuflated mechanisms, at least close to end-effectors.

Design and Experiments of a Single-Foot Linear Piezoelectric Actuator Operated in a Stepping Mode

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2018
A single-foot linear piezoelectric actuator is proposed in this paper, and a new exciting method for the stepping motion is discussed. The proposed actuator works in the hybrid modes of the second horizontal bending vibration and the second vertical ...

The actuator surface

1984
An actuator surface can be defined as a two dimensional geometric region in a fluid at which a discontinuity in any flow property can occur [26]. We confine ourselves to a more restricted definition. We will use the term actuator surface for a two dimensional region in a fluid on which an external force field is concentrated. At this surface we have to
