Electroacupuncture Ameliorates Cognitive Impairment in Vascular Dementia Rats: Potential Involvement of the Astrocyte–Synapse Axis

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
Electroacupuncture significantly ameliorates cognitive impairment and synaptic damage in vascular dementia rats, showing specific advantages over nimodipine. Electroacupuncture Ameliorates Learning and Memory Deficits in Vascular Cognitive Impairment Rats Through Activation of the Supramammillary Nucleus–Dentate Gyrus Circuit

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
Electroacupuncture at ST36 alleviates cognitive deficits and restores hippocampal synaptic plasticity in VCI rats by activating the SuMGlu‐DG circuit. This study identifies the SuMGlu‐DG circuit as an essential mediator for the therapeutic and neuroprotective effects of acupuncture in vascular‐induced cognitive decline.
