Rationale, design and methodology of a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study of escitalopram in prevention of Depression in Acute Coronary Syndrome (DECARD)

open access: yesTrials, 2009
Background The prevalence of depression in patients with acute coronary syndrome, i.e. myocardial infarction and unstable angina, is higher than in the general population. The prevalence of anxiety is higher as well.

PIEZO Force Sensing in Vascular Biology: An Explosion of New Knowledge, Concepts and Opportunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Knowledge of the remarkable mechanical force sensing and electrically transducing PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 channels is discussed across vascular biology and its cell types from the embryonic to adult stages in health, disease and old age. How the channels work, relate to other factors and signal for tissue responses to mechanical forces is debated.

Harnessing the Biological Responses Induced by Nanomaterials for Enhanced Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
Nanomaterial (NM)‐induced toxicity can be strategically repurposed for cancer therapy. This review summarizes the mechanism by which NMs selectively activate specific cellular processes to regulate cell fate independently. We also discussed how NMs‐induced biological responses can be leveraged as therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment.

Coronary Artery Fistula Presenting as Unstable Angina Pectoris in Patients with Antiphospholipid Syndrome

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2013
The cardiovascular system is one of the primary targets in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome. The valves are the most frequently affected. Atherosclerosis and coronary thrombosis are also seen. The risk of acute coronary syndrome is 10 times higher

Acute Coronary Syndromes in the Community [PDF]

open access: yesMayo Clinic Proceedings, 2015
To measure the incidence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), defined as first-ever myocardial infarction (MI) or unstable angina (UA); evaluate recent temporal trends; and determine whether survival after ACS has changed over time and differs by type. This was a population surveillance study conducted in Olmsted County, Minnesota (population: 144,248 ...
