Current Drug Abuse Reviewse, 2012Cocaine is one of the most widely used drugs of abuse. Chest pain is the most common side effect requiring emergency visits after cocaine use. Vasoconstriction and platelet activation are the main effects of cocaine in the vasculature. In this brief review, we consider the most important clinical effects of cocaine abuse on the heart, brain and kidney.

In general, acute abdominal diseases are of four pathological types: obstructive, infectious, hemorrhagic, and vascular. Frequently a combination of these types is observed, as in obstructions incident to infection and inflammatory edema, and in hemorrhagic pancreatitis. Together, they may produce that most serious emergency: peritonitis.

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases, 1970Although the medical literature stresses the chronic nature of hepatic granulomas, we encountered, during a time span of several months, 2 patients with an acute febrile illness and hepatic involvement. Liver biopsy in both revealed epithelioid and mononuclear cell granulomas throughout the liver.
