Analysing Wideband Absorbance Immittance in Normal and Ears with Otitis Media with Effusion Using Machine Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Wideband Absorbance Immittance (WAI) has been available for more than a decade, however its clinical use still faces the challenges of limited understanding and poor interpretation of WAI results. This study aimed to develop Machine Learning (ML) tools to identify the WAI absorbance characteristics across different frequency-pressure regions in the ...

Rigidity of Acute Angled Corners for One Phase Muskat Interfaces [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
We consider the one-phase Muskat problem modeling the dynamics of the free boundary of a single fluid in porous media. We prove local well-posedness for fluid interfaces that are general curves and can have singularities. In particular, the free boundary can have acute angle corners or cusps.

Treatment of Acute Otitis Media in Children [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2011
report that antibiotics reduced “the time to reso-lution of symptoms and reduced the overall symp-tom burden” in children with acute otitis media, and they reject the null hypothesis on the basis of statistical benefit in three of four “primary” out-comes. There is no explanation of, or correction for, the use of four primary outcomes.

IgG responses to Pneumococcal and Haemophilus influenzae protein antigens are not impaired in children with a history of recurrent acute otitis media.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012

Clinical presentation, treatment, and outcome of 24 dogs with bacterial meningitis or meningoencephalitis without empyema (2010‐2020)

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Volume 37, Issue 1, Page 223-229, January/February 2023., 2023
Abstract Background Bacterial meningitis (BM) and meningoencephalitis (BMEM) are associated with high case fatality rates and neurologic sequelae in people, but limited data exists on outcome in dogs. Hypothesis/Objectives To report the clinicopathologic features, treatment and outcome of BM/BMEM in dogs, with a focus on clinical presentation, relapse ...

Barriers and facilitators to exclusive breastfeeding among Black mothers: A qualitative study utilizing a modified Barrier Analysis approach

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
Utilizing a Barrier Analysis approach, we conducted six focus group discussions, hearing from Black mothers who exclusively breastfed for 3 months and those who did not. Facilitators found to be important specifically for women who exclusively breastfed for 3 months include self‐efficacy, lactation support, appropriate lactation supplies, support of ...

Collateral benefits from a school‐readiness intervention on breastfeeding: A cross‐domain impact evaluation

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
We found that the Smart Beginnings (SB) intervention increased the rates of providing breast milk as the only milk source in the study site with low initial rates of breastfeeding. Our study contributes to the small, but growing, literature on the potential health benefits of early learning interventions and extends these findings to breastfeeding, a ...
