The advent of intermittent and continuous haemodialysis meant that peritoneal dialysis was progressively neglected for treatment of acute kidney injury. However, peritoneal dialysis has some specific features making it a suitable treatment in certain indications, such as risk of bleeding, neurosurgery, or haemodynamically unstable patients.
