Management of Mechanical Ventilation in Decompensated Heart Failure. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a life-saving intervention for respiratory failure, including decompensated congestive heart failure. MV can reduce ventricular preload and afterload, decrease extra-vascular lung water, and decrease the work of breathing ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Current trends in single‐cell RNA sequencing applications in diabetes mellitus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Single‐cell RNA sequencing is a powerful approach to decipher the cellular and molecular landscape at a single‐cell resolution. The rapid development of this technology has led to a wide range of applications, including the detection of cellular and molecular mechanisms and the identification and introduction of novel potential diagnostic and ...

A study of outcome of noninvasive ventilatory support in acute respiratory failure

open access: yesIndian Journal of Respiratory Care, 2019
Introduction: Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is often used in acute respiratory failure to prevent endotracheal intubation and its complications. Various factors influence favorable outcome for NIV.

ETIOLOGICAL AND CLINICO-PARACLINICAL CORRELATIONS IN CASE OF CHILDREN’S ACUTE RESPIRATORY FAILURE [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Pediatrics, 2017
Introduction. Acute respiratory failure presents very high morbidity and mortality among the pediatric patients, being one of the most frequent causes of recurring to the emergency services and of hospitalization. Material and method.

Epidemiology, causes, evolution and outcome in a single-center cohort of 1116 critically ill patients with hypoxic hepatitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Hypoxic hepatitis (HH) is a type of acute hepatic injury that is histologically characterized by centrilobular liver cell necrosis and that is caused by insufficient oxygen delivery to the hepatocytes.

Short‐term actions of epigalocatechin‐3‐gallate in the liver: a mechanistic insight into hypoglycemic and potential toxic effects

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Epigallocatechin‐3‐gallate (EGCG) acutely inhibited gluconeogenesis and enhanced glycolysis, glycogenolysis, and fatty acid oxidation in perfused rat livers. Mechanistic assays revealed mitochondrial uncoupling, inhibition of pyruvate carboxylation and glucose‐6‐phosphatase, shift of NADH/NAD+ ratios toward oxidation, and loss of membrane integrity ...

Non-Ventilator Management of Respiratory Failure: The Ventimask [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
This paper will detail the conservative management of acute respiratory failure in patients with chronic respiratory failure due to chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is important to recognize that this is a very specific group of patients.
