Sensorimotor Rehabilitation Promotes Vestibular Compensation in a Rodent Model of Acute Peripheral Vestibulopathy by Promoting Microgliogenesis in the Deafferented Vestibular Nuclei

open access: yesCells, 2021
Acute peripheral vestibulopathy leads to a cascade of symptoms involving balance and gait disorders that are particularly disabling for vestibular patients.

Acute Unilateral Vestibulopathy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUV) is the recommended term (rather than the more widely used vestibular neuritis) for all pathologies involving sudden impairment of the unilateral peripheral vestibular function regardless of the exact location of the ...

Characterization of Thyroid Hormones Antivertigo Effects in a Rat Model of Excitotoxically-Induced Vestibulopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2022

Dose- and application route-dependent effects of betahistine on behavioral recovery and neuroplasticity after acute unilateral labyrinthectomy in rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2023
IntroductionBetahistine is widely used for the treatment of various vestibular disorders. However, the approved oral administration route and maximum daily dose are evidently not effective in clinical trials, possibly due to a major first-pass metabolism

Impaired Duration Perception in Patients With Unilateral Vestibulopathy During Whole-Body Rotation

open access: yes, 2022
This study aimed to evaluate vestibular perception in patients with unilateral vestibulopathy. We recruited 14 patients (9 women, mean age = 59.3 ± 14.3) with unilateral vestibulopathy during the subacute or chronic stage (disease duration = 6 days to 25

Functional Dissociation Between Cervical VEMP and Posterior Canal vHIT in 1770 Unselected Ears

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Cervical VEMP and posterior canal vHIT are conventionally treated as measures of a single inferior vestibular unit. In 1770 unselected ears from a diagnosis‐agnostic registry, the two tests disagreed in 72.7% of ears abnormal on at least one test, with chance‐corrected agreement near zero (κ = 0.097) and unchanged across age strata.

Vestibular Perception following Acute Unilateral Vestibular Lesions. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Little is known about the vestibulo-perceptual (VP) system, particularly after a unilateral vestibular lesion. We investigated vestibulo-ocular (VO) and VP function in 25 patients with vestibular neuritis (VN) acutely (2 days after onset) and after ...

Factors Associated With Bilateral Involvement in Non‐Infectious Labyrinthitis: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Non‐infectious labyrinthitis may progress from unilateral to bilateral inner‐ear involvement, resulting in greater functional impairment. In this retrospective case–control study of 50 patients, younger age, female sex, and the presence of systemic disease were associated with bilateral involvement. These exploratory findings may help identify patients
