A Concept Language Model for Ad-hoc Retrieval [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 26th International Conference on World Wide Web Companion - WWW '17 Companion, 2017
We propose an extension to language models for information retrieval. Typically, language models estimate the probability of a document generating the query, where the query is considered as a set of independent search terms. We extend this approach by considering the concepts implied by both the query and words in the document.

The adjective “unique”: More than a buzzword in the language of advertising [PDF]

open access: yesIbérica, 2021
This paper examines the role of the adjective “unique” in car manufacturers’ websites. The presence of adjectives is generally acknowledged to be a significant feature of advertising texts; however, analyses often focus on issues relating to the ...

Increasing the Performance of Reactive Routing Protocol using the Load Balancing and Congestion Control Mechanism in MANET [PDF]

open access: yesComputer and Knowledge Engineering, 2019
Nowadays, routing and the improvement of reliability along with the load balancing and congestion control are the most important and challenging concepts in ad-hoc networks. However, there are some constraints in the bandwidth and the communication range

Paralanguage and ad hoc concepts

open access: yesPragmatics. Quarterly Publication of the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA), 2022
Abstract Ad hoc concept construction is regarded as a case of free pragmatic enrichment, so it is presented as a non-linguistically mandated process that is automatically accomplished during mutual parallel adjustment. Recent research suggests that this lexical pragmatic process may be marked and steered by various linguistic elements.

Towards a relevance-theoretic approach to the diminutive morpheme

open access: yesRussian Journal of Linguistics, 2020
This paper intends to lay the foundations for a relevance-theoretic approach to the diminutive morpheme. In many languages, this morpheme is attached to nouns, adjectives, adverbs or verbs.

Design and Analysis of an Energy-Efficient Load Balancing and Bandwidth Aware Adaptive Multipath N-Channel Routing Approach in MANET

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a collection of spontaneous nodes that form a dynamic network without any centralized administration. Routing decisions for mobile communication is a challenging task because the continuous movement of nodes increases the

Ad hoc categories [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
People construct ad hoc categories to achieve goals. For example, constructing the category of “things to sell at a garage sale” can be instrumental to achieving the goal of selling unwanted possessions.

A coherentist conception of ad hoc hypotheses [PDF]

open access: yesStudies in History and Philosophy of Science Part A, 2018
What does it mean for a hypothesis to be ad hoc? One prominent account has it that ad hoc hypotheses have no independent empirical support. Others have viewed ad hoc judgements as stemming from a lack of unifiedness of the amended theory. Still others view them as merely subjective.

Survey of clustering techniques for mobile ad hoc networks

open access: yesRevista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia, 2014
Clustering methods allow fast connection and also better routing and topology management of mobile ad hoc networks (MANET). In this paper a survey of clustering techniques for MANET is presented and some preliminary concepts for designing clustering ...
