Adaptive focused beamforming

1989
Sonar (sound navigation ranging) is an apparatus that detects the presence and location of submerged objects (as a submarine) by means of sonic waves reflected back from or produced by an object.

Adaptive and Robust Beamforming

2014
Abstract This chapter is dedicated to the overview of the main results in the fields of adaptive beamforming and robust adaptive beamforming. The basic principles and main approaches to adaptive and robust adaptive beamforming are explained based on the narrowband point source signal model.

Comparison of compressive sampling beamforming to adaptive and conventional beamforming

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2012
Interest in the application of compressive sampling to beamforming has increased in recent years [G.F. Edelmann and C.F. Gaumond, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 130(4) EL232-EL237 (2011)]. This work compares the performance of a compressive sampling beamformer to conventional beamforming and to an adaptive beamforming algorithm which utilizes dominant mode ...

A Robust Adaptive Beamforming Approach

2009 International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2009
In this paper, a new adaptive weight computation algorithm for a robust array antenna is presented to improve the shortcoming of linearly constrained adaptive beamformer’s sensitivity to the mismatch between the prescribed and actual direction of arrival (MPDOA).The adaptive array minimizes the mean output power under the direction constraint that the ...

An ASIC design for adaptive beamforming

1991 International Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2002
Adaptive beamforming is based on the RLS (recursive least squares) algorithm realized by the RLS systolic array (RLSSA) proposed by McWhirter in 1983. The authors use CORDIC (CO-ordinate Rotation Digital Computer) algorithm to implement RLSSA. Only shifting and adding operations are employed to realize all the primitive array's complex procedure.

Symmetrical Component Adaptive Beamforming

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1968
The theory of symmetrical components, long used in connection with fault-current analyses of multiphase power-distribution systems, has been applied to the problem of adaptive beamforming with the result that the response of a spatially diverse array of sensors can be made virtually free of the effects of the stationary part of the surrounding noise ...

The PDF of adaptive beamforming weights

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1991
The author derives a closed-form expression for the marginal probability density function (PDF) for the weight vector coefficients in a minimum-variance distortionless response (MVDR) adaptive beamformer, when the snapshots are independently identically distributed (IID) normal and the weights are computed via sample matrix inversion.

Adaptive beamforming for multipath environments

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2006
Coherent multipaths present a significant challenge to most adaptive beamformers because they violate the common assumption of a rank-one plane wave or geometrically focused signal. When the multipath arrivals that characterize shallow water propagation are resolvable by the array’s aperture, the mismatch between the assumed and the true signal spatial
