Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Determinant moments for the design management occurrence in fashion industry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Design management has occupied a privileged place in debates related to the field of design and innovation in fashion industry. The apparel industry, in particular, presents a dynamic character, requiring constant updates on raw materials, changes in ...

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

An asymptotic scaling analysis of LQ performance of an approximate adaptive control design

open access: yes, 2002
We consider the adaptive tracking problem for a chain of integrators, where the uncertainty is static and functional. The uncertainty is specified by L2/L∞ or weighted L2/L∞ norm bounds. We analyse a standard Lyapunov-based adaptive design which utilises

The Significance of Adaptive Design in R&D in Japan

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2008
In the past decade, the number of drug and biological product submissions to the United States Food and Drug Administration has been slowly declining, while biomedical research spending has increased.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Adaptive hypertext design environments: putting principles into practice

open access: yes, 2000
This paper discusses the design of a tool for authoring adaptive hypertext. First we describe the task of adaptive hypertext design. The network editing task as well as the testing phase are explored showing the importance of a design environment for ...

Performance Limitation of Subband Adaptive Equalisers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The aim of this reported work was identifying and quantifying limitation for the subband adaptive equalisers. The derived Wiener solution is compared against simulations for the subband equaliser, and it is verified that aliasing caused in the subband ...

ADAPTABLE DESIGN FOR DESIGN REUSE

open access: yesProceedings of the Canadian Engineering Education Association (CEEA), 2011
Due to the complexity, associated cost, and general uncertainty of performing the creative design process, significant value exists in reusing the design information developed in previous design efforts. This paper outlines the current state of the art in design reuse in various fields as well as identifying both the current and future research areas ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
