Micro-positioning stages for adaptive optics based on piezoelectric thick film actuators

open access: yes, 2022
S.285-290Piezoceramic actuators based on thick film technology offer the opportunity of integrated solutions for smart microsystems. Especially in adaptive micro-optics, where the height of devices is limited, outgassing has to be inhibited and complex ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Cooperative Task Planning of Heterogeneous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Formations Driven by a Multi-Objective Dolphin Echolocation Optimization Algorithm

open access: yesDrones
In the task planning of heterogeneous unmanned aerial vehicle formations, problems such as dynamic topological instability and sparse Pareto front exist, which affect the robustness of the planning. To address this, this paper proposes a cooperative task

Mechanical Behavior and Fracture Mechanisms of MXene/PVDF Nanocomponsites: In Situ Characterization and Multiscale Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multiscale experiments and modeling reveal how Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets reinforce PVDF nanocomposites. An optimal MXene loading (∼1 wt.%) nearly doubles tensile strength through efficient stress transfer, flake alignment, and crack‐deflection mechanisms, transforming ductile polymer behavior into a controlled multi‐stage fracture pathway which aligns ...

Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Standoff spectroscopy via remote generation of a backward-propagating laser beam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In an earlier publication we demonstrated that by using pairs of pulses of different colors (e.g., red and blue) it is possible to excite a dilute ensemble of molecules such that lasing and/or gain-swept superradiance is realized in a ...

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Driving adaptability of highway steel-concrete composite beam bridge with multiple damages: theory, technology and practice

open access: yesJournal of Asian Architecture and Building Engineering
To enhance the post-disaster highway driving speed evaluation system for steel-concrete composite beam bridge (SCCBB), a human-vehicle-bridge coupled driving adaptability analysis method is proposed. This method integrates considerations of both driving safety and comfort.
