Harmonised observations of climate forcing across Africa: an assessment of existing approaches and their applicability

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
A crucial aspect of coordinated climate action is the ability to measure, attribute, report and verify the drivers of climate change not only globally, but down to national level.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Insect resistance responses of ten Aster varieties to damage by Tephritis angustipennis in the three rivers source region of China

open access: yesScientific Reports
Aster varieties are widely used for medicinal purposes, landscaping, and ecological restoration, but their growth and reproduction are significantly threatened by the seed predator Tephritis angustipennis (Diptera: Tephritidae).

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Changes of soil bacterial community composition and functional groups in different altitude gradients of Potentilla fruticosa shrub in eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionSoil properties and extracellular enzyme activities are the key factors affecting microbial communities at different altitudes. It is very important to understand their distribution patterns along the elevation gradient for predicting the ...

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

One threat, two solutions: Grazing drives divergent adaptive strategies in two dominant Alpine grassland species

open access: yesEnvironmental and Experimental Botany
Herbivory is a major selective pressure shaping plant evolution, and the responses of plants to herbivory are typically explained by the growth-defense balance hypothesis (GDBH). However, GDBH often oversimplifies the effects of herbivore types and fails

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Analysis of spatial and temporal distribution of grassland yield under grassland ecological subsidy policy

open access: yesScientific Reports
The Three River Headwater Region is an ecologically sensitive and fragile area. The analysis of long-term grassland yield changes, as well as the impact of climate and topography on grassland yield is of great significance to grassland ecological ...
