Generic Adaptive Mesh Refinement

open access: yes, 2007
In this chapter, we explain how to implement a simple, generic and efficient adaptive mesh refinement kernel on graphics processors. This kernel maps a refined connectivity onto coarse polygons in a single pass at vertex shading stage, enabling arbitrary displacement at high resolution in real-time.

Refinement strategies in adaptive meshing

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1992
Two strategies for reducing the overall number of finite-element computations needed in an adaptive meshing algorithm are proposed. In the first strategy (called two-threshold refinement), numerical values of the estimated local error are used both to select the elements to be refined and to decide into how may new elements each of them will be ...

Dynamic Repartitioning of Adaptively Refined Meshes

Proceedings of the IEEE/ACM SC98 Conference, 1998
One ingredient which is viewed as vital to the successful conduct of many large-scale numerical simulations is the ability to dynamically repartition the underlying adaptive finite element mesh among the processors so that the computations are balanced and interprocessor communication is minimized.
