A Review of Adaptive Optics Optical Coherence Tomography: Technical Advances, Scientific Applications, and the Future

open access: yesInvestigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, 2016
Purpose Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has enabled “virtual biopsy” of the living human retina, revolutionizing both basic retina research and clinical practice over the past 25 years.

Adaptive optics photoacoustic microscopy

open access: yesOptics Express, 2010
We have developed an adaptive optics photoacoustic microscope (AO-PAM) for high-resolution imaging of biological tissues, especially the retina. To demonstrate the feasibility of AO-PAM we first designed the AO system to correct the wavefront errors of the illuminating light of PAM.

Closing the gap in plan quality: Leveraging deep‐learning dose prediction for adaptive radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Balancing quality and efficiency has been a challenge for online adaptive therapy. Most systems start the online re‐optimization with the original planning goals. While some systems allow planners to modify the planning goals, achieving a high‐quality plan within time constraints remains a common barrier.

The Durham adaptive optics real-time controller [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
The Durham adaptive optics real-time controller was initially a proof of concept design for a generic adaptive optics control system. It has since been developed into a modern and powerful CPU based real-time control system, capable of using hardware acceleration (including FPGAs and GPUs), based primarily around commercial off the shelf hardware.

Exploring surface‐guided systems for intelligent breathing‐adapted four‐dimensional computed tomography: A comparison to infrared‐based reflective marker systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the technical feasibility of adapting a surface monitoring system, designed for conventional four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT), to an intelligent, breathing‐adapted 4DCT and examines its potential to expand the currently limited range of supported surrogate systems.

Geometric and dosimetric evaluation of a commercial AI auto‐contouring tool on multiple anatomical sites in CT scans

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Current radiotherapy practices rely on manual contouring of CT scans, which is time‐consuming, prone to variability, and requires highly trained experts. There is a need for more efficient and consistent contouring methods. This study evaluated the performance of the Varian Ethos AI auto‐contouring tool to assess its potential integration into

Anisoplanatic adaptive optics in parallelized laser scanningmicroscopy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Inhomogeneities in the refractive index of a biological sample can introduce phase aberrationsin microscopy systems, severely impairing the quality of images. Adaptive optics can be employed to correct for phase aberrations and improve image quality. However, conventional adaptive optics can only correct a single phase aberration for the whole field of

In vivo transit dosimetry methodology for whole breast intensity modulated radiation therapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background In vivo transit dosimetry using an electronic portal imaging device (EPID‐IVTD) is an important tool for verifying the accuracy of radiation therapy treatments. Despite its potential, the implementation of EPID‐IVTD in breast intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) treatments has not yet been standardized, limiting its clinical
