The transversal filter is widely used in digital data processing. In this paper, we describe a method for using optically tapped, Bragg cell delay lines to implement a general adaptive linear prediction algorithm. Flexibility is achieved through changing the electronic signals.

There are two different approaches for improving the accuracy of analog optical associative processors: postprocessing with a bimodal system and preprocessing with a preconditioner. These two approaches can be combined to develop an adaptive optical multiprocessor that can adjust the computational steps depending on the data and produce solutions of ...

From the earliest days and nights of telescopic astronomy, atmospheric turbulence has been a serious detriment to optical performance. The new technology of adaptive optics can overcome this problem by compensating for the wavefront distortion that results from turbulence.

Adaptive Optics Ophthalmoscopy
Journal of Refractive Surgery, 2000ABSTRACT Retinal images in the human eye are normally degraded because we are forced to use the optical system of the human eye- which is fraught with aberrations - as the objective lens. The recent application of adaptive optics technology to measure and compensate for these aberrations has produced retinal images in human eyes with ...

AbstractAdaptive optics is a technique for correcting atmospheric wavefront disturbances to yield diffraction limited imaging. It is a technique whose advantages are most apparent in the 2-5ยต spectral region, where wavefront corrections are derived from study of visible objects. Graphs are presented to show performance needs of adaptive optics systems.

The goal of the corrector is to correct for monochromatic aberrations by flattening the wavefront. It is arguably the most important component in an adaptive optics (AO) system. The majority of AO systems use mirrors that can change their shape or deform, hence the name deformable mirrors.
