Protective Adaptation of Brain to Water Intoxication

Archives of Neurology, 1973
An animal model of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion was used to study changes in water and electrolytes in water intoxication. As the serum became hypotonic, brain and muscle initially reacted by swelling and decreasing sodium content. Subsequently, muscle continued to swell and maintained normal potassium levels.

Adaptive current differential protection schemes for transmission-line protection

IEEE PES General Meeting, 2009
Throughout the history of power system protection, researchers have strived to increase sensitivity and speed of apparatus protection systems without compromising security. With the significant technological advances in wide-area measurement systems, for transmission system protection, current differential protection scheme outscores alternatives like ...

Adaptive relaying concepts for generator protection

TENCON '91. Region 10 International Conference on EC3-Energy, Computer, Communication and Control Systems, 2005
Adaptive relaying concepts as applicable to generator protection are presented in this paper. Adaptive relaying deploys changes in relaying settings and/or change in relay characteristics or even a change in relaying modus operandi as and when the system configuration or oprating conditions change.

An Adaptive Protection Scheme for AC Microgrids Using μPMU Based Topology Processor

2019 IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2019 IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe (EEEIC / I&CPS Europe), 2019
Proper protection of microgrids (MGs) is a challenging task due to bidirectional power flow and changing network topology. Application of micro-phasor measurement units (μPMUs) in MGs is gaining popularity in providing better system observability ...

Adaptive and protective values of symptoms

BMJ, 2010
The ideas about the protective role of fevers in infection are not new.1 The potential benefit of symptoms is not unique to fever and may lead us to a better understanding of “health.” Evidence that inducing a fever could ameliorate the severity of infections was first provided by Jauregg in the 1920s. …

Adaptive protection methodology in microgrid for fault location and nature detection using q 0 components of fault current

IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2018
The dynamic behaviour of microgrid system under faulty conditions makes adaptive protection a general necessity for reliable microgrid operation. In design of adaptive protection, the grid-connected and islanded modes have immense importance including ...

Optimal Adaptive Protection Using Setting Groups Allocation Based on Impedance Matrix

2020 14th International Conference on Protection and Automation of Power Systems (IPAPS), 2019
In this paper, an offline adaptive protection coordination based on Setting Groups (SGs) is proposed to consider the uncertainties in distribution networks. Distributed Generations (DGs) and line outages significantly change the patterns of fault current

Coupling an adaptive protection system with an energy management system for microgrids

, 2019
Energy Management Systems (EMS) are control schemes in charge of defining the optimal scheduling of dispatchable units in a microgrid. Output set points from the EMS could be exploited in other control loops that may benefit from the microgrids expected ...

Adaptive Protection Coordination with Setting Groups Allocation

International Journal of Renewable Energy Research, 2019
- Distributed Generations (DGs) plug & play operation changes the fault current levels, which results in Directional Over-Current Relay (DOCR) miss-coordination and non-optimal tripping times. Adaptive protection is a great solution to tackle the adverse
