In the design of bonded aircraft structures, the type of failure is crucial. More specifically, the failure in case of overload should be limited to the surrounding fibre composite structure.

Structured Decomposition of Adaptive Applications [PDF]
We describe an approach to automate certain high- level implementation decisions in a pervasive application, allowing them to be postponed until run time. Our system enables a model in which an application programmer can specify the behavior of an adaptive application as a set of open-ended decision points.

Delaminations are a concern for the structural integrity of fibre composite structures. The decisive material parameter for delaminations is fracture toughness. Structures usually have a multidirectional ply stacking.

Adaptive Regularization With the Structure Tensor [PDF]
Natural images exhibit geometric structures that are informative of the properties of the underlying scene. Modern image processing algorithms respect such characteristics by employing regularizers that capture the statistics of natural images. For instance, total variation (TV) respects the highly kurtotic distribution of the pointwise gradient by ...

Adaptive Dynamics with Interaction Structure [PDF]
Evolutionary dynamics depend critically on a population's interaction structure-the pattern of which individuals interact with which others, depending on the state of the population and the environment. Previous research has shown, for example, that cooperative behaviors disfavored in well-mixed populations can be favored when interactions occur only ...

Car Soundproof Improvement through an SMA Adaptive System
The work at hand focuses on an adaptive system aimed at improving the soundproof performance of car door seals at specific regimes (cruise), without interfering with the conventional opening and closing operations.

Integrated Shock Absorber With Both Tunable Inertance and Damping
Inerter is a two-terminal mass element, and the applied force is proportional to the relative acceleration between the terminals. According to the second class of mechanical–electrical analogy, the inerter corresponds exactly to the capacitor in the ...

Manufacturing and Testing of a Variable Chord Extension for Helicopter Rotor Blades
Helicopters are still an indispensable addition to aviation in this day and age. They are characterized by their ability to master both forward flight and hover. These characteristics result in a wide range of possible operations.
