Modeling and Analysis of Self-Organizing UAV-Assisted Mobile Networks with Dynamic On-Demand Deployment

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Attempts to develop flexible on-demand drone-assisted mobile network deployment are increasingly driven by cost-effective and energy-efficient innovations.

Adaptive Concrete Beams Equipped With Integrated Fluidic Actuators

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2020
The rapidly growing world population is a great challenge for the building industry. Due to the impending scarcity of resources, it is not possible to provide the growing mankind with sufficient living and work places and infrastructure with current ...

Algorithms and Adaptivity Gaps for Stochastic k-TSP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Given a metric $(V,d)$ and a $\textsf{root} \in V$, the classic $\textsf{$k$-TSP}$ problem is to find a tour originating at the $\textsf{root}$ of minimum length that visits at least $k$ nodes in $V$.

Why and When Are Evidence‐Based Interventions Adopted in Paediatric Supportive Care? A Qualitative Exploration of the Determinants of Photobiomodulation Implementation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Oral mucositis is a common and debilitating side effect of childhood cancer and stem cell transplant treatments. It affects the quality of life of children and young people (CYP) and places a strain on services. Photobiomodulation is recommended for oral mucositis prevention in international guidance but is poorly implemented in UK ...

Numerical Simulation of a Nonlinear Problem Arising in Heat Transfer and Magnetostatics

open access: yesProceedings, 2020
We present a numerical model that comprises a nonlinear partial differential equation. We apply an adaptive stabilised mixed finite element method based on an a posteriori error indicator derived for this particular problem.

Long-range Acoustic Interactions in Insect Swarms: An Adaptive Gravity Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The collective motion of groups of animals emerges from the net effect of the interactions between individual members of the group. In many cases, such as birds, fish, or ungulates, these interactions are mediated by sensory stimuli that predominantly ...

From adaptive dynamics to adaptive walks [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Biology, 2019
We consider an asexually reproducing population on a finite type space whose evolution is driven by exponential birth, death and competition rates, as well as the possibility of mutation at a birth event. On the individual-based level this population can be modelled as a measure-valued Markov process.

Clinical Insights Into Hypercalcemia of Malignancy in Childhood

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hypercalcemia of malignancy (HCM) is a rare but life‐threatening metabolic emergency in children that occurs in less than 1% of pediatric cancer cases, with a reported incidence ranging from 0.4% to 1.0% across different studies. While it is observed in 10%–20% of adult malignancies, pediatric HCM remains relatively uncommon.

A model of adaptive decision making from representation of information environment by quantum fields

open access: yes, 2017
We present the mathematical model of decision making (DM) of agents acting in a complex and uncertain environment (combining huge variety of economical, financial, behavioral, and geo-political factors).

Adherence to Protocol Recommendations for Children With Wilms Tumour in Two Consecutive Studies in the United Kingdom and Ireland—Does Variation Matter?

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Wilms tumour (WT) has excellent event‐free and overall survival (OS). However, small differences exist between countries participating in the same international study. This led us to examine variation in adherence to protocol recommendations as a potential contributing factor.
