Added Resistance of Moonpools in Calm Water

Volume 6: Nick Newman Symposium on Marine Hydrodynamics; Yoshida and Maeda Special Symposium on Ocean Space Utilization; Special Symposium on Offshore Renewable Energy, 2008
The additional ship resistance due to water oscillations in an open moonpool as constructed in drillships can be obtained through model tests. The oscillation has a dominant frequency and character, and the amplitude increases with forward speed. The resonant oscillation mode can be piston or sloshing.

Added Resistance of Ships in Waves

Journal of Hydronautics, 1978
A new method is presented for computing the added resistance of a ship advancing at constant mean speed and heading in regular waves. It is shown that the added resistance, even though it is a second-order quantity, can be expressed as a product of first-order terms that are all computed by computer programs presently in use for predicting the linear ...

The Exact Calculation of the Added Resistance in Waves

Volume 12: Vibration, Acoustics and Wave Propagation, 2012
The exact calculation of the added resistance in waves is a seakeeping problem of high interest due to economic effect on ship exploitation. In this paper an open uniform B-spline based method is developed to calculate added resistance. Initially this method applied to calculate velocity potential and Kochin functions that are necessary for calculation

Added Resistance of a VLCC in Short Waves

29th International Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering: Volume 3, 2010
In quantifying speed loss due to waves, added resistance in short waves plays an important role, because most of the time a ship travels in small sea states. It is known that added resistance in small sea states is difficult to predict accurately. In order to study improved prediction methods, numerical calculations and experiments on added resistance ...

Initial responses to added viscous resistance to inspiration in dogs

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1965
Respiratory mechanics and diaphragm electromyograms in six anesthetized dogs were studied to determine the immediate nonchemical responses to three levels of added airflow resistance to inspiration. Inspiratory time, intrathoracic pressure amplitude, diaphragm activity, and inspiratory work all increased in the first breath with added resistance.

The Ability of Man to Detect Added Resistive Loads to Breathing

Clinical Science, 1971
1. Resistive loads were added to the airways of patients with tracheostomies; the patients were blindfolded and the loads introduced without their knowledge. 2. The ability to detect the loads was the same in a patient with C3 transection (chest wall and diaphragm disconnected from the brain) as in a control group of patients with no ...

A comparition of different methods for added resistance prediction

2007
Added resistance prediction represents an important challenge for ship-owners due to its economic implications in terms of choice of engines, fuel consumption and route-time evaluation. Design offices should consider seriously this problem already in the early stages of the design.

The Methods of added Resistance Estimation for Ships in a Seaway

2008
Reliable evaluation of added resistance in a storm conditions allows to quantifying the real overload on the propeller and the engine power needed to achieve the required service speed. The added resistance of a ship in a seaway has been studied for several decades.

The added resistance of a moving ship in waves

International Shipbuilding Progress, 1972
On the base of the method outlined in [1] more detailed analysis of the added resistance of ships in waves is shown. The practical estimation of the components of the added resistance is given. The comparison of the calculated and experimental results for the cargo ship is made also.
