A Multi-Level Approach to the Prediction of the Added Resistance and Powering of Ships in Waves
Ocean Engineering, 2019In this paper, we present a multi-level fidelity approach and associated computational tools for the prediction of the added resistance of various types of ships in waves.

On the Prediction of Wave-added Resistance with Empirical Methods
Journal of Ship Production and Design, 2015There is continuous research on analytical, numerical, and (semi)empirical methods to predict wave-added resistance. Most of this research focuses on a particular area, like motion-induced wave added resistance, wave-added resistance in short waves, or is limited to head seas only.

An investigation into added resistance of vessels advancing in waves
Ocean Engineering, 2016The hydrodynamic forces and motions of ship advancing in waves are estimated by using 3D frequency domain potential flow theories. The 3D translating and pulsating (3DTP) source panel method is employed to solve the radiation and diffraction potential problems, in which a semi-analytical scheme is established to get more robust results of integration ...

A newly developed three dimensional multi-domain high order boundary element method (MDHOBEM) is applied to solve time domain ship motions in waves for ships advancing with forward speed, as well as the corresponding added wave resistances. By the method,

A Parametric Prediction of Added Resistance in Waves
2012The added resistance in waves is, from a practical viewpoint, a key issue when selecting the propulsive plant of ships. Despite the fact that normal sea conditions correspond very rarely to calm water, most of the optimisation work performed at a design stage on the hull and on the propulsion system of ships relates to the calm sea condition.

Towards understanding the ship added resistance in waves
2016Intuitive methods for the determination of the ship added resistance in waves date from the very beginning of the study of this complex physical problem. They were created in the absence of accurate analytical and numerical tools for the ship motion and present phenomenon analysis, particularly wave diffraction and radiation.
