The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Incomplete interval fuzzy preference relations for supplier selection in supply chain management

open access: yesTechnological and Economic Development of Economy, 2015
In the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), it needs the decision maker to establish a pairwise comparison matrix requires n(n–1)/2 judgments for a level with n criteria (or alternatives).

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Application to the additive fabrication of Object Oriented Methodology

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Based on some experimentation in NUM3D Platform, we integrate the possibilities of additive manufacturing processes and the characteristics of the materials. We extend to the specific property inherent in form and control to define a new tetraptych CPMF (

The decomposability of additive hereditary properties of graphs

open access: yesDiscussiones Mathematicae Graph Theory, 2000
Summary: An additive hereditary property of graphs is a class of simple graphs which is closed under unions, subgraphs and isomorphisms. If \({\mathcal P}_1,\dots,{\mathcal P}_n\) are properties of graphs, then a \(({\mathcal P}_1,\dots, {\mathcal P}_n)\)-decomposition of a graph \(G\) is a partition \(E_1,\dots, E_n\) of \(E(G)\) such that \(G[E_i]\),

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Improving Concrete Properties With Fibers Addition

open access: yes, 2014
This study investigated the improvement in concrete properties with addition of cellulose, steel, carbon and PET fibers. Each fiber was added at four percentages to the fresh concrete, which was moist-cured for 28-days and then tested for compressive, flexural and tensile strengths. Changes in strength and increases in cost were analyzed.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
