Of 209 cases of pleomorphic adenoma treated in a 30 year period, 38 were secondary referrals with recurrent disease following surgery. Of these, 25 were women and 13 men with a mean time to recurrence of 9 years 4 months. Thirty-four recurrences were in the parotid gland.

Pleomorphic adenomas are the most widespread epithelial tumours originating from the salivary glands. In almost 90% of the cases, they are localized in the parotid salivary glands. Pleomorphic adenomas only rarely affect the larynx. To the best of our knowledge, as many as 27 cases of laryngeal pleomorphic adenoma have thus far been described in the ...

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of the salivary glands. Though a benign lesion, proper recognition and management of this process is needed to avoid increasing enlargement of the mass, facial nerve impairment, risk of malignant degeneration, and recurrence after surgical resection.

Metastasizing Pleomorphic Salivary Adenoma
Archives of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery, 2006To address questions about the etiology, behavior, optimal treatment, and prognosis of metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma (MPA), we undertook a review of the literature (1953-2005) and constructed a virtual series of all identified cases of MPA, metastatic lesions that are very occasionally identified in patients with a history of pleomorphic salivary ...

Metastatic salivary pleomorphic adenoma
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1990AbstractPleomorphic adenomas of the salivary gland are usually regarded as benign tumours. We report a case in which a solitary pulmonary metastasis arose from a pleomorphic adenoma of the right parotid gland. The mechanism of metastasis is discussed.
