Adenosarcoma arising in hepatic endometriosis

We report a case of adenosarcoma arising in hepatic endometriosis. Both CT and MR scans demonstrated a huge heterogeneous mass containing septated, thick-walled cystic lesions. After enlarged right hepatectomy, the patient was asymptomatic with no abnormalities at liver and abdominal CT scan at 2-year follow-up.

Adenosarcoma arising in inguinal endometriosis is a rare clinical entity.A 47-year-old nulligravida presented with a persistent and enlarged right groin mass. Sixteen years earlier she had undergone total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for endometriosis and was placed on estrogen therapy.

Müllerian adenosarcoma has been recently described as a distinctive biphasic uterine tumor with benign epithelial and malignant stromal components. The lesion belongs generally to the group of mixed müllerian tumors, but the benignity of the epithelium separates it from the other neoplasms of this type.

A case of a 67-year old woman with adenosarcoma of the uterus is reported. Adenosarcoma is a mixed mesodermal tumour with a low malignant potential. It is characterised by a benign glandular and a malignant stromal component. Adenosarcomas are usually treated by hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
