Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Friction behavior of silicon in contact with titanium, nickel, silver and copper [PDF]

open access: yes
Sliding friction experiments are conducted with the semiconductor silicon in contact with the metals titanium, nickel, copper, and silver. Sliding is on the (111) plane of single-crystal silicon in the 112 crystallographic direction both in dry and ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

THE COEFFICIENT OF FRICȚION IN THE FRETTING PHENOMENON [PDF]

open access: yesFiabilitate şi Durabilitate, 2016
Fretting is now fully identified as a small amplitude oscillatory motion which induces a harmonic tangential force between two surfaces in contact. The present paper argues that adhesion forces and elastic deformation in the contact zone may contribute

Expert supervision of an anti-skid control system of a commercial aircraft [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A rule-based supervising system that incorporates fuzzy logic has been designed to back-up a conventional anti-skid braking system (ABS). Expressing the expert knowledge about the ABS in terms of linguistic rules, the supervising fuzzy system adapts the ...

Tuning Interparticle Hydrogen Bonding in Shear-Jamming Suspensions: Kinetic Effects and Consequences for Tribology and Rheology

open access: yes, 2019
The shear-jamming of dense suspensions can be strongly affected by molecular-scale interactions between particles, e.g. by chemically controlling their propensity for hydrogen bonding. However, hydrogen bonding not only enhances interparticle friction, a

Online Estimation of the Adhesion Coefficient and Its Derivative Based on the Cascading SMC Observer

open access: yesJ. Sensors, 2017
The adhesion coefficient of wheel-rail surface cannot be directly measured, so a cascaded sliding-mode observer is proposed to observe adhesion coefficient and its derivative. A kinetic model for running heavy-duty locomotive is also established.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Research on the horizontal curve's radius under coupling effects of uneven adhesion coefficient and crosswind

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English ed. Online), 2015
In order to study the effects of uneven adhesion coefficient and crosswind on alignment design indexes, a six-axle semi-trailer is selected as the typical vehicle model to investigate the effects of uneven adhesion coefficient caused by superelevation ...
