Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Effect of metallurgical structure and properties on adhesion and friction behavior of cobalt alloys [PDF]

open access: yes
The metallurgical structure and some of the mechanical properties of two cobalt alloys, cobalt-50% iron and cobalt-25% molybdenum-10% chromium, were determined under various heat treated conditions. The mechanical properties of the bcc disordered Co-50Fe

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

Adhesion of microcapsules

open access: yes, 2006
The adhesion of microcapsules to an attractive contact potential is studied theoretically. The axisymmetric shape equations are solved numerically. Beyond a universal threshold strength of the potential, the contact radius increases like a square root of

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

Influence of different types of superabsorbent polymers on fresh mechanical properties and interlayer adhesion of 3D printed concrete

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
3D printed concrete (3DPC) is an essential technology for achieving efficient, precise, and sustainable construction. Nevertheless, due to limitations in materials and processes, 3DPC is prone to insufficient green strength and weakness in the interlayer

Unidirectional Tape‐Based Composites from Hemp and Pineapple Leaf Fiber: Mechanical Performance in Conventional and Bio‐Based Matrices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The study investigates novel semi‐finished products made of unidirectionally arranged hemp or pineapple leaf fiber‐reinforced composites produced from different matrices. The materials are analyzed in terms of their mechanical and interfacial properties and void content.
