Adhesive Bonding

JOURNAL OF THE JAPAN WELDING SOCIETY, 2020
This chapter presents the application of adhesive bonding technology with a long tradition of use in manufacturing processes. It has an established position among a number of different ways of permanently joining elements together. This work offers a list of many advantages of this technology, alongside the difficulties and limitations in the use of ...

Catch Bonds in Adhesion

Annual Review of Biomedical Engineering, 2008
One of the most exciting discoveries in biological adhesion is the recent and counter-intuitive observation that the lifetimes of some biological adhesive bonds, called catch bonds, are enhanced by tensile mechanical force. At least two types of adhesive proteins have been shown to form catch bonds—blood proteins called selectins and a bacterial ...

Bonding Agents and Adhesives

Advances in Dental Research, 1988
Development of molecules which will adhere to tooth structure is a high-priority area of dental research. Although enamel and dentin present formidable obstacles to adhesive mechanisms, there is substantial progress in the formulation of agents which are already altering certain procedures, such as the conservative restoration of the erosion lesion ...

Interphases in the Adhesive Bonding of Fluoropolymers

The Journal of Adhesion, 1994
Abstract Strong and durable adhesive bonds may be made between polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and either cyanoacrylate (CA) or epoxy adhesives, if the PTFE surface is modified by the use of a “primer” such as triphenylphosphine (TPP) or diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM).

Ultrasonic Evaluation of Adhesive Bonding

The Journal of Adhesion, 1989
Abstract The capabilities of existing ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods for the strength-related properties of bonds in structural components is reviewed. The severe limitations of conventional NDE methods in yielding quantitative results are indicated.

Adhesion Mediated by Bonds in Series

Biotechnology Progress, 1996
Cell adhesion in physiological situations and biotechnological applications is often mediated through serial protein/protein linkages. The adhesion strength of cell/substrate contacts through receptor/ligand bonds in series is explored with a simple mathematical model and quantified with an experimental adhesion assay.
