Development of environment-friendly bio-based film with improved performance for food preservation using dialdehyde starch grafted konjac flour

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Developing environment-friendly films by utilizing renewable bio-resource materials to substitute petroleum-based ones is regarded as an effective approach for addressing white pollution and its associated hazards. In this work, a redox system consisting

Quantitative analysis of the debonding structure of soft adhesives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We experimentally investigate the growth dynamics of cavities nucleating during the first stages of debonding of three different model adhesives. The material properties of these adhesives range from a more liquid-like material to a soft viscoelastic ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Preparation and Modification of Sucrose-Based Non-Isocyanate Polyurethane Adhesives for Plywood Bonding

open access: yesMolecules
The production of non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) resins using recyclable biomass materials and no isocyanates as a substitute for traditional polyurethane (PU) materials has become a research focus in the polyurethane industry.

On/off switching of adhesion in gecko‐inspired adhesives

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2021
In this study, the adhesion‐detachment behaviour of a gecko‐inspired adhesive pad was investigated to understand the on/off switching mechanisms of adhesion in gecko feet.

High-temperature Adhesive Development and Evaluation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
High-temperature adhesive systems are evaluated for short and long-term stability at temperatures ranging from 232C to 427C. The resins selected for characterization include: NASA Langley developed polyphenylquinoxaline (PPQ), and commercially available ...

Switchable Adhesion of Soft Composites Induced by a Magnetic Field

open access: yes, 2020
Switchable adhesives have the potential to improve the manufacturing and recycling of parts and to enable new modes of motility for soft robots. Here, we demonstrate magnetically-switchable adhesion of a two-phase composite to non-magnetic objects.
