Phenomenon of transformed adiabatic shear band surrounded by deformed adiabatic shear band of ductile metal

open access: yesTransactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China, 2008
Abstract The coexistent phenomenon of deformed and transformed adiabatic shear bands(ASBs) of ductile metal was analyzed using the JOHNSON-COOK model and gradient-dependent plasticity(GDP). The effects of melting point, density, heat capacity and work to heat conversion factor were investigated.

Gravitational Stability of Hydrated SiO2 and Basaltic Crust in the Lower Mantle

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract We determined thermal equations of state of hydrated stishovite and CaCl2‐type SiO2 up to 100 GPa and 3,000 K to assess the gravitational stability of hydrated stishovite and basaltic crust in the lower mantle. Using machine‐learning based atomistic simulations, we examined three hydrogen dissolution mechanisms: hydrogarnet‐type, interstitial ...

Diurnal Pulses in Tropical Cyclones as Convectively Coupled Gravity Waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract This study uses convection‐permitting simulations to examine the vertical extent, propagation, and nighttime preference of diurnal pulses (DPs) in tropical cyclones (TCs). DPs are outward‐moving rings of cooler brightness temperatures near the storm center and may indicate TC intensification.

Adiabatic shear behavior of pearlitic heat-resistant steel under fragment-simulating projectile impact

open access: yesDefence Technology
Adiabatic shear band (ASB), as the precursor to catastrophic material failure, is of great significance in the research of impact resistance. This study investigated the adiabatic shear behavior of 12Cr1MoV steel under high-velocity impact from fragment ...

Research on adiabatic shear failure character of pure copper and aluminum bronze based on empirical electron theory

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
The valence electron structure (VES) parameters affecting adiabatic shearing failure under high speed impact load using split Hopkinson pressure bar (SHPB) were studied by empirical electron theory (EET) of solids and molecules.

Grain Refinement During Severe Plastic Deformation and Similitude of Subgrain Formation: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 15, 5 August 2026.
Molecular dynamics is used to investigate structure refinement during severe plastic deformation. The results show similitude with experimental data. Molecular dynamics simulations of severe plastic deformation of monocrystalline and polycrystalline samples by multiaxial compression of aluminum are carried out.

Positively Charged Polymer‐Brush MOFs for Large‐Area, Pressure‐Resistant Gas Separation Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 43, 3 August 2026.
A universal POPA strategy enables positively charged polymer‐brush MOFs with self‐adaptive interfacial interlocking to resist aggregation under fast processing. This design ensures seamless dispersion within large‐area selective layers, achieving 1 m‐wide roll‐to‐roll fabrication of pressure‐resistant MMCMs with tunable CO2 separation performance ...

Static and Dynamic Analysis of Porous Gas Bearings Lubricated With Air, Refrigerant R‐134a, Helium and Hydrogen

open access: yesLubrication Science, Volume 38, Issue 5, Page 301-326, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Porous gas bearings (PGBs) enable high‐speed, oil‐free operation in modern rotating machinery. This study develops a coupled thermo‐hydrodynamic (THD) model for a cylindrical porous gas bearing lubricated with four working fluids—air, R‐134a, helium and hydrogen.

Preconditioning of Polynya Formation by Ocean Mixing at Maud Rise, Antarctica

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Antarctic open‐ocean polynyas trigger vigorous wintertime convection, influencing ocean circulation and atmospheric processes. In the Weddell Sea, interaction between the Weddell Gyre and the Maud Rise seamount generates a Taylor column that favors polynya formation.
