Cellulosic Functional Bioplastic with Tunable Strength and Toughness Through Heat‐Treatment of Dynamic Covalent Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 38, October 13, 2025.
A fully bio‐based dynamic covalent network is constructed via Diels‐Alder chemistry between furan‐modified cellulose derivatives and bismaleimide‐functionalized lignin. This system enables tunable strength‐ductility balance through heat‐treatment and exhibits excellent recyclability.

Protective and Collision‐Sensitive Gel‐Skin: Visco‐Elastomeric Polyvinyl Chloride Gel Rapidly Detects Robot Collision by Breaking Electrical Charge Accumulation Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2025.
For safe human–robot collaboration (HRC), a protective and collision‐sensitive robot skin is proposed. The developed robot skin, named Gel‐Skin, is composed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) gel, which is a functional material with impact absorption capability and tunable piezoresistive characteristics based on electrical charge‐accumulation.

Scaling‐up the Bioconversion of Lignin to 2,4‐Pyridinedicarboxylic Acid With Engineered Pseudomonas putida for Bio‐Based Plastics Production

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, Volume 122, Issue 10, Page 2770-2780, October 2025.
ABSTRACT 2,4‐pyridinedicarboxylic acid (PDCA) is a promising bio‐based compound to substitute petroleum‐derived terephthalic acid in plastics. It is produced through the microbial conversion of lignin substrates with engineered microorganisms like Pseudomonas putida.

Chemically Recyclable Polyester Thermosets from Activated Adipic Acid and Renewable Polyols

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 18, Issue 19, October 1, 2025.
Closed‐loop chemically recyclable polyester thermosets were synthesized using glycerol and sorbitol and adipic acid as the monomers. Adipic acid was converted/activated into a mixture of polyanhydrides via a benign procedure prior to polymerization. A tensile strength up to 18 MPa was achieved.
