Green Approach To Adipic Acid

Chemical & Engineering News Archive, 2014
A new route to adipic acid that uses ozone and ultraviolet light to eliminate the problematic nitrous oxide by-product has researchers intrigued. But once again, issues of scale-up and safety with a greener route to this chemical intermediate—used to make nylon, polyurethane, and plasticizers—temper the good news.

Benzene‐Free Synthesis of Adipic Acid

Biotechnology Progress, 2002
AbstractStrains of Escherichia coli were constructed and evaluated that synthesized cis, cis‐muconic acid from d‐glucose under fed‐batch fermentor conditions. Chemical hydrogenation of the cis, cis‐muconic acid in the resulting fermentation broth has also been examined.

The Polymerization of Crystalline Hexamethylenediammonium Adipate

Molecular Crystals, 1969
Abstract Crystalline hexamethylenediammonium adipate (m.p. 197 °C), the one to one salt of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, polymerizes at temperatures below its melting point yielding the corresponding polyamide (Nylon 66). Although there is considerable disorientation of the resulting crystalline polymer, two preferred directions of chain growth

The crystal structure of adipic acid

Recueil des Travaux Chimiques des Pays-Bas, 1941
AbstractThe crystal structure of adipic acid has been fully determined. Cell dimensions:a = 10.07, b = 5.16, c = 10.00 Å, β = 137°5′.Space group C2h, ‐ P21/a. The approximately flat molecules have a centre of symmetry and are stretched along the c axis. The atomic positions are derived from two projections of the electronic density.
