Some applications of the adjoint variable method in electromagnetic optimization and inverse problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we present two applications of the adjoint variable method (AVM). First we consider a design optimization problem in magnetic shielding. The objective is to reduce the magnetic stray field of an axisymmetric induction heating device for the heat treatment of aluminum discs.

Adjoint Variable Method for Multi-Objective Sizing and Shape Optimization

open access: yesJournal of Computational Science and Technology, 2009
With smooth objective functions and constraint conditions, gradient-based methods can be used to solve multi-objective optimization problems efficiently. However, when applied to structural sizing optimization problems, using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and a finite difference scheme to calculate sensitivities can be computationally expensive.

GCN-based 3D aerodynamic optimization design based on discrete adjoint method

open access: yesKongqi donglixue xuebao
Gradient-based optimization algorithms, particularly the discrete adjoint method, are widely used in aerodynamic shape optimization due to their independence from design variable dimensionality.

Topology Optimization of Chip Inductor Using Density Method [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a novel methodology of the topology optimization method considering eddy current effects. The method is applied on chip inductors modelled by the Finite Element Method (FEM).

Aerodynamic adjoint-based optimization design method for aircraft based on low-dissipation scheme

open access: yesKongqi donglixue xuebao
In aerodynamic discrete adjoint optimization design systems for aircraft, the accuracy and robustness of the flow field transport equations and adjoint equations are primarily influenced by the numerical discretization schemes used for the inviscid terms.

Subwavelength Bayer RGB color routers with perfect optical efficiency

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2022
We introduce subwavelength color routers with perfect optical efficiency in a red-green-green-blue (RGGB) Bayer layout for solid state image sensors. This is the first demonstration of a subwavelength device concept that shows the full potential of color

Topology Optimization of Hydrodynamic Body Shape for Drag Reduction in Low Reynolds Number Based on Variable Density Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
This paper presents a variable density topology optimization method to numerically investigate the optimal drag-reduction shape of objects in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional flows with steady incompressible external flow conditions, taking into

Shape Optimization Using Adjoint Variable Method for Reducing Drag

open access: yesJournal of Power and Energy Systems, 2007
To decrease the fluid drag force on the surface of a specified object subjected to unsteady flow, under a constant volume condition, the adjoint variable method is formulated by using FEM. Based on the Lagrange multiplier method (a conditional variational principle), this method consists of the state equation, the adjoint equation and the sensitivity ...

Neural Fields for Highly Accelerated 2D Cine Phase Contrast MRI

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT 2D cine phase contrast (CPC) MRI provides quantitative information on blood velocity and flow within the human vasculature. However, data acquisition is time‐consuming, motivating the reconstruction of the velocity field from undersampled measurements to reduce scan times. In this work, neural fields are proposed as a continuous spatiotemporal

Effect of Approximations of the Discrete Adjoint on Gradient-Based Optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
An exact discrete adjoint of an unstructured nite-volume solver for the RANS equations has been developed. The adjoint is exact in the sense of being based on the full linearization of all terms in the solver, including all turbulence model ...
