Propagation of internal gravity waves: Optimal vertical discretisation and grid design based on numerical error analysis

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
An energy‐conserving discrete framework for the vertical discretisation of stratified ocean models is developed using internal gravity‐wave theory. A β$$ \beta $$‐indexed family of schemes is analysed through perturbation theory, revealing optimal parameter choices and grid designs that reduce truncation errors significantly.

Circulant Matrix‐Based Box–Behnken Designs With Economic Run Sizes

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We introduce Circulant Matrix‐Based Box–Behnken Designs (CBBDs), a new class of three‐level, second‐order response surface designs constructed using circulant matrix structures. These designs satisfy an enhanced orthogonal minimally aliased (OMA∗${\rm OMA}^*$) property: they retain the classical OMA property—where main effects are orthogonal ...

How Does Our Degrading System Perform?

open access: yesQuality and Reliability Engineering International, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We discuss the quality of performance of degrading systems when degradation is modeled by a stochastic process with independent increments and increasing sample paths. As an example, the gamma process is considered. First, for the continuously observed degradation, by comparing with the black‐box scenario (without observing degradation), the ...

Tools and techniques for formalising structural proof theory

open access: yes, 2010
Whilst results from Structural Proof Theory can be couched in many formalisms, it is the sequent calculus which is the most amenable of the formalisms to metamathematical treatment.

Adaptive Sliding‐Mode Control of a Perturbed Diffusion Process With Pointwise In‐Domain Actuation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A sliding mode–based adaptive control law is proposed for a class of diffusion processes featuring a spatially‐varying uncertain diffusivity and equipped with several point‐wise actuators located at the two boundaries of the spatial domain as well as in its interior.
