Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte and monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratios as inflammatory markers in the assessment of glycemic status in diabetic patients of Asir region

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and monocyte‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (MLR) were investigated as potential markers. A total of 3545 subjects were included in the analysis retrospectively. Adult men and women with impaired glucose metabolism were assessed. NLR and MLR may help assess inflammation in individuals with impaired glucose metabolism. Abstract

Cognitive Outcome in Young Adults after Resolution of Epilepsy in Childhood

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Self‐limited epilepsies of childhood are common and were considered benign. We aim to determine whether cognitive function in young adults who experienced epilepsy as children and are subsequently seizure‐free and unmedicated differ from the general population. We report on a cross‐sectional population‐based study including 2,124,871 men and women aged

Exploring developmental changes in femoral midneck cross‐sectional properties

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
The properties of femoral midneck cross‐sections exhibit a unique growth pattern that is characterized by shape changes during adolescence. Abstract This research delves deeper into previous works on femoral cross‐sectional properties during ontogeny by focusing for the first time on the human femoral midneck. The ontogenetic pattern of cross‐sectional

Early life functional transitions impact craniofacial morphology in osteogenesis imperfecta

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Early life behaviors have a profound role in shaping adult craniofacial morphology. During early life, all mammals undergo the dynamic transition from suckling to mastication, a period coinciding with rapid cranial biomineralization. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a genetic disorder that impacts the production of type I collagen, disrupts ...

Review of the anatomical basis for predicting plutonium alpha particle radiation induced osteogenic cancers

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Plutonium was discovered and first synthesized in the early 1940's. Several isotopes of plutonium are used in nuclear technologies, 238Pu for heat generation and 239Pu for energy production and weapons. Both isotopes emit alpha particles, which pose a significant radiation hazard when incorporated into the body.
