Palaeoenvironmental setting of rudists in the Upper Cretaceous (Turonian–Maastrichtian) Adriatic Carbonate Platform (Croatia), based on sequence stratigraphy

open access: yesCretaceous Research, 2002
Rudist bivalves are abundant in Upper Cretaceous Adriatic carbonate platform deposits in biostromes of varying biodiversity and density that alternate with foraminiferal wackestones to packstones.

The Role of the Palaeogene Adriatic Carbonate Platform in the Spatial Distribution of Alveolinids

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences, 2011
Sediments of the Paleogene Adriatic carbonate platform, a distinctive paleogeographic unit, are today exposed along the eastern Adriatic coast for a distance of 800 km and a width of 100 - 130 km. The large number of identified alveolinid species (69) from the Early Ypresian (Ilerdian) to the Bartonian record the dynamics of their evolution, with ...

The Cenomanian–Turonian boundary in the northwestern part of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform (Ćićarija Mtn., Istria, Croatia): characteristics and implications [PDF]

open access: yesFacies, 2017
The Cenomanian–Turonian boundary (CTB) in the Ćićarija Mountain region (northern Istria, Croatia) is characterized by calcisphere limestone successions with a firmground and glauconite horizon, bioturbated intervals, tempestites, and slumped structures ...

Dinosaur ichnocoenoses on the Adriatic–Dinaridic carbonate platform

2009
Within the area of the former Adriatic–Dinaridic carbonate platform 17 sites with dinosaur footprints have been discovered ; 15 of them on the Istrian peninsula. Stratigraphic range of these findings is Late Tithonian–Late Maastrichtian. Five different kinds of dinosaurs have been recognized among these sites.

Volcanoes in the Adriatic Sea: Permo-Triassic magmatism on the Adriatic-Dinaridic carbonate platform

Acta mineralogica-petrographica, 2010
Permo-Triassic rift-related magmatism in the Dinarides, produced gabbro-diorite-syenite-granite formation and an extrusive basalt-andesite-dacite formation with abundant pyroclastic rocks. Wide range of igneous rock ages from Permian to Triassic times show two stage evolution from the early intra-continental rifting to the advanced rifting and ...

The role of taphonomic features in the palaeoecological interpretation of Eocene carbonates from the Adriatic carbonate platform (PgAdCP)

Neues Jahrbuch für Geologie und Paläontologie - Abhandlungen, 2012
The preservation conditions of larger benthic foraminifera from the Lutetian Foraminiferal Limestones from Lavsa Island, Kornat Archipelago (Adriatic Sea, Croatia) were examined in order to provide a description of the taphonomic signature and a semi-quantitative estimation of test degradation in thin section analysis.

Depositional history of the Paleogene Adriatic carbonate platform

2009
The Paleogene Adriatic carbonate platform existed within the Central Tethys from Paleocene (Danian) to late Middle Eocene (Bartonian). Its depositional history differs from the stages-pattern recognized in the platformal development in the Tethys region, in the Pyrenees and Egypt.

Depositional sequences and Palaeography of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform

Memorie della Societa Geologica Italiana, 2002
The area of the Adriatic Carbonate Platform, i.e. the Karst region of the Dinarides, although significantly reduced in size during the Cenozoic (especially because of Late Tertiary tectonics), is still unique and one of the few relatively well preserved carbonate systems of the Peri-medeterranean realm. This is especially true if three dimensional data

Paleoenvironmental model for Eocene foraminiferal limestones of the Adriatic carbonate platform (Istrian Peninsula)

Facies, 2004
The foraminiferal limestones from the Middle Eocene Central Istrian region illustrate progressive deepening of depositional gradients. Shifting of Lower Cuisian to Upper Lutetian microfacies can be described in terms of a ramp model. The Orthophragminae-bearing parts of the foraminiferal limestones are interpreted in terms of larger foraminiferal ...

Synsedimantary tectonics on the Adriatic Carbonate Platform

2001
