Mercury speciation in the Adriatic Sea
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2015Mercury and its speciation were studied in surface and deep waters of the Adriatic Sea. Several mercury species (i.e. DGM – dissolved gaseous Hg, RHg – reactive Hg, THg – total Hg, MeHg – monomethyl Hg and DMeHg – dimethylmercury) together with other water parameters were measured in coastal and open sea deep water profiles.

Sponge disease in the Adriatic Sea
Marine Ecology, 2012AbstractA mass mortality episode involving three marine dyctioceratid sponges, Ircina variabilis, Sarcotragus spinosulus and Spongia officinalis, was observed on ‘Scoglio del Trave’ (Conero Promontory, North Adriatic Sea) in late summer 2009. In this area, calm sea and high temperatures throughout summer created unfavorable environmental conditions ...

Artificial Reefs in the Adriatic Sea
2000Italian initiatives and experiments with artificial reefs, in particular in the Adriatic Sea, have been prompted by the requirement to effectively manage and enhance the coastal seas. The coastal zone is subject to inter- and intra-sector conflicts but has great potential for fishery and mariculture development.

The Adriatic Sea is a remote branch of the Mediterranean which provides conditions for the development of a heterogeneous flora and vegetation. Due to adverse paleoclimatic effects, tropical, Indo-Pacific, Atlantic, cosmopolitan and endemic species occur side by side, the last being especially well represented in the Adriatic Sea (Feldmann 1958).
